Where is my wine?

Dear Futures Buyers,

In sharp contrast to this last harvest, the two previous (the 05, & 06 represented here in your futures) were some of the latest on record. At first we thought this year was unfathomably early... Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot reaching sugars of 25 by the first few days of September, but with acid levels that were through the roof. The Sauvignon Blanc and other whites weren't even at 20. Thank gosh we had the fortitude of 16 harvests under our belt to know to wait it out. Some of our neighbors were apparently prepared to make blush wines... we hope it was wittingly. As it turns out, although it started prematurely, it became one of the longest, most drawn out harvests on our books, with our last vineyard, the Baker Zinfandel coming in on Oct 31st. There was a one-two week lull in the middle after our first grapes from SF Bay's Field of Dreams Vineyard (a Syrah) came in on September 6th. Our estate Pinot Noir was handpicked at daybreak on September 15, 2007 with very even ripening and near perfect statistics. The elevated acids coupled with good ripeness should indicate very age-worthy, collector-style Cabs, Meritages, and Merlots, however, expect them to spend quite a bit more time barrel aging. At any rate, there's always something peculiar or idiosyncratic to report each harvest, but all summed up: it's almost always eventful, we get through it... and we don't have bad growing years in Sonoma County, albeit some are better than others.

The following futures are not yet bottled, but are due to go in the bottle by early Spring and will be available by next Barrel Tasting (1st & 2nd wknds in March): The 2006 Young Buck Zinfandel, the 2006 Nebbiolo, the 2006 St. Olof Malbec, the 2006 Pleasant Valley Petite Sirah, the 2005 Hedin Cab and the 2005 Strycker (Suck-your-Teeth) Cab.

If you ordered these, they will be shipped to you as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your patience, and thank you for your order. I can only estimate dates I think the wines will be released; the wine is ready to bottle when it's ready, not necessarily when it's expedient for me... at times I feel like its curator.

I foresee great things from this new offspring; they are all remarkably varietal and terrior expressive - it will be pleasurable to watch their development in stages... a bottle now... a few during the holidays and another in early spring, one in summer and some to lay down for a longer sleep.

Below are the Tasting Notes for the futures you purchased in 2007. A preview of the new futures for 2008 has been included with your shipments or Will Call, including and an invitation to get in on them early with an added 5% incentive if ordered before 2008. Keep in mind, some won't be offered as part of the regular futures program. As a futures buyer, you're invited to bypass the waiting list for our wine club, which allows for deeper discounts on futures, pre-releases, exclusive bottling events and winemaker's dinners, as well as, allocations of reserve wines.

We have never sold so many futures as in 2007 (we say this every year) and the wines and I thank you.

Sincerely,

Frane Franicevic/Winemaker/Owner

Cot or Auxerrois. Sunce's third voyage with this varietal is the fullest, blackest, thickest, like oil, exuding a typical Malbec nose of fruitcake and anise with some fresh barnyard mixed in. This release is representative of the its vintage-the best since 1997. This is such a well developed, well-balanced, full-flavored Cab you'll swear it's better than a Napa Cab thrice its price. Nothing restrained about the blackberry fruit on this one, and the tannins are softer, even velvety, and more integrated than in previous vintages. 100% Nebbiolo. Lampia clone. Made in authentic Barolo-style and pressed on Barbera skins. This early budding, early flowering, late ripening thin-skinned grape made it out of the vineyard unscathed, which is a triumph since it's harder to grow than even Pinot Noir. For you hard to please folks, who've been to Cab, to Pinot and just need something a little more... this is for you. It touches places on the palate that have never been touched-statistically speaking, if it ever makes it out of the growing season, it has the perfect ph, acid, tannin balance. This one has the signature violets on the nose but also has an exotic Lychee nut character. Oh, the finesse, the everlasting finish. Only 18 Barrels Made-450 cases.

Black, muddy river... roll on forever. I don't care how deep or wide... roll muddy river. Just some lyrics that come to mind. Grapey and vinous by nature, however, this offspring is uncharacteristically distinctive and pleasing. Like a good zin, but with more tannins.
